June 2 & 3, Saturday and Sunday – 10am-4pm: Bay Area Satsuki Azalea Bonsai Show in the Lakeside Park Garden Center, adjacent to the Gardens at Lake Merritt.
June 9 & 10, Saturday and Sunday – 10am-5pm: California Suiseki Society Show in the Lakeside Park Garden Center. Suiseki (水石) is the Japanese art of stone appreciation.
June 16, Saturday – noon-4pm: Bay Area Carnivorous Plant Society Show in the Lakeside Park Garden Center.
June 23, Saturday – noon to 1pm: Alameda County Master Gardeners present “Got Bugs? Outsmarting Pests in Your Garden Safely. Bring leaf & bug samples! Want to learn more about what is eating your vegetables? What virus killed your tomato plants? Where to find out more when you have a pest problem in your yard? This is the talk for you. Dennis Brown will help you learn how to identify your bugs and manage them in the least toxic manner.
Master Gardener Dennis Brown will help you see your way through aphids, ants, snails and slugs as you learn about common pests and diseases. June 24, Sunday -1pm-3pm: Introduction to Bonsai: Interactive Demo and Questions in the Bonsai Garden. This free workshop (held every fourth Sunday of the month) covers the art of Bonsai including techniques, styling, care and grooming. You are welcome to bring your own tree for some TLC.

NEW TIMES – Every Thursday Morning – 9:00am to noon: Meet at the Pollinator Gardens adjacent to the Community Edible Garden. Every Tuesday Evening – 5:30pm-7:00pm: Meet in the Sensory Garden.
June 2, Saturday- 9am-1:30pm: Mediterranean and Succulent Gardens.
June 16, Saturday- 9am-12pm: Sensory, Palmetum, and Rhododendron Gardens
June 16, Saturday – 10am-noon: Edible Community Garden. Accepting New Volunteers. Meet at the People’s Victory Garden.
June 17, Sunday – 9am-11:30am: Edible Community Garden. Building a Bamboo Pagoda Trellis. Meet at People’s Victory Garden.
June 27, Wednesday -3:30 pm: Edible Community Garden. Accepting New Volunteers. Meet at People’s Victory Garden.
Bring a friend and a garden tool. When volunteering, receive a parking pass at the kiosk by telling the attendant you are a volunteer with the Friends of the Gardens at Lake Merritt.
In the event of rain, meet behind the lathe house (the Vireya Display Garden) where we will plant cuttings under cover.
June Gardening Tips

- Fertilize, water and deadhead flowers to keep them blooming.
- Check your plants for insects and disease. Get help from http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/PMG/menu.homegarden.html
- Replace harvested cool season crops with warm season crops.
- Harvest and enjoy!
- Check to be sure that your irrigation system is working and meets the needs of your garden.
