Join us for the Lakeside Park Open House on Saturday July 14th
The City of Oakland Parks & Recreation (OPR) and the Friends of the Gardens at Lake Merritt (FGLM) invite you to explore and celebrate Oakland’s oasis at the Lakeside Park Open House, Saturday July 14, 2012, from 11AM to 3PM.
Stroll the gardens and enjoy a variety of family-friendly garden tours, demonstrations, and activities throughout the day. The days festivities include:
Gardens tours and demonstrations
Free Lake Merritt sailboat rentals
Complimentary refreshments donated by Whole Foods Oakland
Fun activities at the Nature Center
Live music and more!
Garden Demonstrations for Everyone
Chef Robert Dorsey III will provide a demonstration on creating seasonal salsa from the garden’s freshest herbs. Victory V. Lee of the People’s Victory Garden will lead a demonstration describing DIY techniques for community gardens that fit a range of budgets. Christopher Alongi of the French Biodynamic Double Dig garden will bring in chickens and hens to demonstrate best practices for raising feathered friends in your home garden.
